More executive power and domestic spying, brought to you by the Democratic Congress

How bad is the new FISA law passed by the Democratic Congress? The NY Times:

Several legal experts said that by redefining the meaning of “electronic surveillance,” the new law narrows the types of communications covered in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, known as FISA, by indirectly giving the government the power to use intelligence collection methods far beyond wiretapping that previously required court approval if conducted inside the United States.

These new powers include the collection of business records, physical searches and so-called “trap and trace” operations, analyzing specific calling patterns.

And why did Democrats cave? They were skeered of Mr. 26%.

Though many Democratic leaders opposed the final version of the legislation, they did not work forcefully to block its passage, largely out of fear that they would be criticized by President Bush and Republican leaders during the August recess as being soft on terrorism.

I doubt it's fear. More likely they don't give a damn about anything but power and money, same as the repubs.

Very true, and most likely the case, but when they bow down, it makes them look like they have no spines.
And there are some that care about more, like Russ Fiengold at the very least, does a great job of tricking us. He seems to always hold to his beliefs, even if they are unpopular.
Plus, why wouldn't the Democratic Congressmen and women band together to fight Dubya and his outrageous attacks on the Bill of Rights?! My point is that don't they know that would make them MORE popular in today's America where Bush is becoming more and more disapproved of.

Again with this scare-dy-cat bullshit?! Come on! Democrats, GROW SOME BALLS! Don't they realize that standing up to President Bush and the Repubs on this will mean more to their voters than bowing down and not fighting for what they believe in?!

Despicable.
