Barack Obama

YouTube: Now for Presidents!

Submitted by Doc on Fri, 2008-11-14 14:11.

Barack Obama is going to do his weekly Presidential Addresses over radio, as has been done in the past, but he's putting a new spin on it: He's going to also post these addresses on YouTube.

I think, while a tiny bit campy, it's a great idea.

Pro-Obama Catholics Are In Material Cooperation With Intrinsic Evil, Claims Priest

Submitted by Atheinostic on Fri, 2008-11-14 20:12.

Are you a Catholic?

Are you an Obama Supporter?

NO COMMUNION FOR YOU!

McCain communion line only

Voting for a pro-abortion politician when a plausible pro-life alternative exits constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil, and those Catholics who do so place themselves outside of the full communion of Christ’s Church and under the judgment of divine law. Persons in this condition should not receive Holy Communion until and unless they are reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance, lest they eat and drink their own condemnation.

Sorry, pro-Obama Catholics - it appears you can not snack on Jesus. Does that mean, by implication, that all Obama Catholics are now hellbound?

Obama calling for forced participation in community service programs for 6-12 graders

Submitted by Atheinostic on Fri, 2008-11-07 01:10.

required service

"Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school"

I don't know specifically what he has in mind, but if it is anything forced, mandatory, well that just isn't constitutional.

I'm all for voluntary community service programs, especially when the government gives student aid in return.

But compulsory service in compulsory schooling is not acceptable nor legal.

UPDATE

The site has been changed, and no longer calls for mandatory service. Hooray!

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Montana, Georgia, North Carolina, Missouri, and part of Nebraska could still go either way.

As things stand now, there will be at least 57 caucusing with the Dems in the Senate. Republican Senator Smith is leading by just 3,000 votes in Oregon, with 30% of the (Democratic-leaning) precincts yet to report If Merkley takes the lead, that puts the Senate at 58D. Democrat Al Franken is winning by about 1,200 in Minnesota with 98% of the precincts in; if he holds the lead, that puts the Senate at 59D. Something screwy has happened in Georgia; possibly uncounted early votes in GA may possibly mean a runoff Senate election in December. If there is indeed a runoff, a win in GA could mean 60D/40R in the Senate.

Obama's view of Fox News

Submitted by Atheinostic on Wed, 2008-10-15 17:15.

"I am convinced that if there were no Fox News, I might be two or three points higher in the polls," Obama told me. "If I were watching Fox News, I wouldn't vote for me, right? Because the way I'm portrayed 24/7 is as a freak! I am the latte-sipping, New York Times-reading, Volvo-driving, no-gun-owning, effete, politically correct, arrogant liberal. Who wants somebody like that?

"I guess the point I'm making," he went on, "is that there is an entire industry now, an entire apparatus, designed to perpetuate this cultural schism, and it's powerful. People want to know that you're fighting for them, that you get them. And I actually think I do. But you know, if people are just seeing me in sound bites, they're not going to discover that. That's why I say that some of that may have to happen after the election, when they get to know you."

Obama stands up for the Constitution and civil liberties

Good news because someone is finally standing up for and speaking out on Habeus Corpus. Bad news because the writ of Habeus Corpus has somehow gone from centuries-old universal political principle to a partisan wedge issue.

Obama to Palin: 'Don't Mock the Constitution'

It was in St. Paul last week that Palin drew raucous cheers when she delivered this put-down of Obama: "Al-Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America and he's worried that someone won't read them their rights."

Obama had a few problems with that.

"First of all, you don't even get to read them their rights until you catch 'em," Obama said here, drawing laughs from 1,500 supporters in a high school gymnasium. "They should spend more time trying to catch Osama bin Laden and we can worry about the next steps later."

"My position has always been clear: If you've got a terrorist, take him out," Obama said. "Anybody who was involved in 9/11, take 'em out."

But Obama, who taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago for more than a decade, said captured suspects deserve to file writs of habeus corpus.

Calling it "the foundation of Anglo-American law," he said the principle "says very simply: If the government grabs you, then you have the right to at least ask, 'Why was I grabbed?' And say, 'Maybe you've got the wrong person.'"

The safeguard is essential, Obama continued, "because we don't always have the right person."

"The reason that you have this principle is not to be soft on terrorism. It's because that's who we are. That's what we're protecting," Obama said, his voice growing louder and the crowd rising to its feet to cheer. "Don't mock the Constitution. Don't make fun of it. Don't suggest that it's not American to abide by what the founding fathers set up. It's worked pretty well for over 200 years."

You might want to skip through the first 4 minutes or so, which consits of continuous applause and cheering.

Hillary's mid-primary Obama smears and attacks are coming home to roost

Thank you so much Hillary Rodham Clinton, for staying in the primary for so long and "fighting" until the beginning of June. Because of your string of negative attacks on Obama after Super Tuesday, Republicans already have an entire array of freebee anti-Obama smear material, tested, tried, warmed up and ready to go Obama has been throughly "vetted" and has become a stronger candidate.
